Everything About
Lab-Grown Diamonds

Understand what lab-grown diamonds truly are, why they're identical to mined diamonds, and why the world's finest jewelers are embracing them.

What Is a
Lab-Grown Diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. Not a simulant, not cubic zirconia — a genuine carbon diamond crystal, identical in every measurable way to diamonds formed naturally over billions of years beneath the Earth.

Scientists replicate the extreme conditions of the Earth's mantle — temperatures above 1,400°C and pressures of 5–6 GPa — in a controlled laboratory environment. The result? A diamond that is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond.

Not even the world's most sophisticated gemological instruments can tell a lab-grown diamond apart from a mined one without specialized equipment. They share the same brilliance, fire, and scintillation.

Same Carbon Structure
Same Brilliance
Same Hardness (10 Mohs)

How They're Created

1
HPHT Method
High Pressure, High Temperature — a carbon seed is exposed to 1,500°C and 1.5 million PSI pressure, replicating Earth's mantle conditions.
2
CVD Method
Chemical Vapor Deposition — carbon-rich gas (methane) is ionized in a chamber. Carbon atoms layer by layer onto a diamond seed to grow a diamond crystal.
3
Cutting & Polishing
The rough diamond is cut, faceted, and polished by master craftsmen — exactly as a mined diamond would be. Then certified by IGI or GIA.
⏱ Time to grow: 6–10 weeks vs 3 billion years for natural diamonds.

Understanding the 4 C's

The 4 C's — Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat — determine a diamond's quality and value. Lab-grown diamonds are graded on the exact same scale as mined diamonds.

✂️

Cut

Ideal / Excellent / Very Good / Good / Fair / Poor

Cut is the most important factor affecting a diamond's brilliance. It determines how well the diamond interacts with light. Always choose Excellent or Very Good cut for maximum sparkle.

💡 Always prioritize cut over other factors.
🎨

Color

D (Colorless) → Z (Light Yellow)

Diamond color grading goes from D (completely colorless and rarest) to Z (noticeable color). The less color a diamond has, the more valuable. D-F range is considered colorless.

💡 D–H color grades are ideal for most settings.
🔬

Clarity

FL → IF → VVS → VS → SI → I

Clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes. Flawless (FL) is the best grade. VS1-VS2 and VVS1-VVS2 diamonds have inclusions invisible to the naked eye and are excellent value.

💡 VS1-VS2 offer the best clarity-to-price ratio.
⚖️

Carat

0.25ct · 0.5ct · 1ct · 1.5ct · 2ct+

Carat is the measure of a diamond's weight (not size). One carat equals 0.2 grams. Larger diamonds are rarer and exponentially more expensive. Lab-grown diamonds allow you to get larger carats for less.

💡 Lab grown saves you 40–60% at every carat weight.

Diamond Certification

Every LABSPARKEL diamond is certified by the world's leading gemological institutes. Your certificate is your guarantee.

IGI
International Gemological Institute

The world's largest independent gemological institute. IGI certificates grade the diamond on all 4 C's, document its lab-grown origin, and serve as its permanent identity. Over 20 million products certified globally.

GIA
Gemological Institute of America

The creator of the 4 C's grading system and the global standard in diamond assessment. A GIA certificate is universally recognized as the gold standard in diamond certification, providing complete confidence in your purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, 100%. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same chemical composition (carbon), crystal structure, hardness, refractive index, and brilliance as mined diamonds. The only difference is their origin — they are grown in a laboratory rather than mined from the earth.
No — not with the naked eye or standard tools. Lab-grown and mined diamonds are physically and chemically identical. Even trained gemologists cannot visually distinguish them. Only specialized machines (like HPHT/CVD identification equipment) can detect the difference, and even then, the diamonds themselves are identical in every quality aspect.
No. Since lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to mined diamonds, they have the same durability (Mohs hardness 10) and will not cloud, fade, or lose brilliance over time. With proper care, they last forever.
Yes. All LABSPARKEL diamonds come with official IGI or GIA certification, grading the stone on all 4 C's (Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat) and confirming its lab-grown origin. You receive your certificate with every purchase.
The price difference comes from the supply chain, not the diamond itself. Mined diamonds pass through many hands — miner, exporter, distributor, local dealer — each adding a markup. Lab-grown diamonds are produced more efficiently in controlled facilities, allowing us to pass 40–60% savings directly to you.
Significantly more so than mined diamonds. Traditional diamond mining displaces massive amounts of earth, uses huge amounts of water, and impacts ecosystems. Lab-grown diamonds require only electricity (increasingly from renewables) and generate far less environmental disruption — approximately 95% less land disturbance.
